This recipe serves one, but can very easily be scaled up as needed.
Ingredients
· Cooking spray
· 1/4 medium onion, thinly sliced from root to stem
· 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
· 2 1/2 oz. 93% lean ground beef, pressed thinly into a patty the size of your bread (see notes)
· Black pepper, to taste
· 2 slices low-bite/low-point bread
· 2 slices fat-free cheese
· Spray butter or light butter, optional
Directions
1. Coat a skillet with cooking spray and set it over medium to medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes until they have developed some color, anywhere from amber to deep brown. If the onions start getting too dark before they have softened, turn your heat down.
2. Once the onions are cooked to your liking, add the Worcestershire sauce and toss to combine. Then pile the onions in the center of the pan in roughly the size of your patty.
3. Season the patty with pepper and place it on top of the pile of onions, pressing down with a spatula to embed the onions into the patty. Cook 1-2 minutes, flip the patty, and cook another 1-2 minutes.
4. While the patty cooks, place one slice of cheese on top of each slice of bread. When the patty is done, place it onto one of the slices of bread and cheese, then top with the other.
5. Wipe your skillet clean and coat the skillet again with cooking spray. If using, add a bit of butter spray or light butter. Add the patty sandwich to the skillet and, if using, spray the top with more butter spray. Cook the sandwiches about 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is nicely toasted and the cheese is melted.
6. Slice sandwiches in half and serve immediately while warm.
Notes
· You can use any percentage of ground beef you’d like. Or you could even use ground chicken or turkey.
